Ayurveda Wellness Counselor
Training Program for Yoga Teachers, Health Practitioners and Others Interested

The Ayurveda Wellness Counselor Program (AWCP), offered by Sevanti Institute and Sanctuary for Yoga, is the only Ayurveda training program in the Nashville area that meets the National Ayurveda Medical Association (NAMA) education standards for certification as a Ayurveda Health Counselor (C-AHC). Be aware that all other Nashville programs do not meet these standards.

To become a certified Ayurveda Health Counselor (C-AHC), students must meet NAMA standards and pass the NAMA Ayurvedic Health Counselor National Certification Exam to practice as an Ayurveda Health Counselor.

Sevanti Institute offers an Early Practice Certification (ETC) that allows graduates of Level 1 training to practice as a Student Practitioner while in training with supervision.

AWCP Course Description
The Ayurveda Wellness Counselor Program (AWCP) at Sanctuary for Yoga is a two tiered approach to Ayurveda wellness education. The program is divided into two levels:

(1) Level 1 AWCP Foundation Training
Level 1 is open to all as a lifestyle immersion into the Ayurvedic view of life, health, and healing. Level 1 begins the journey of healing others with the journey of healing ourselves, our families, and those closest to us. Taught in two 6-day sessions. For ambitious students interested in starting a personal counseling practice before completing Level 2, one case assessment is required, done at home, with one 8-pg case report to be turned in. There is also an optional trip to India to experience personal healing work and first hand experience of how Ayurveda is practiced there. Hours of training: 150-hrs. Available now.

(2) Level 2 AWCP Advanced Certification Training: starting in 2018!
Level 2 is designed for those seeking advanced training with the objective to attain Ayurveda Health Counselor recognition from the National Ayurvedic Medical Association, or NAMA. Level 2 offers an array of advanced training modules that fulfill NAMA education and practice standards for the Ayurveda Health Counselor level practitioner. Many topics and skills introduced in AWCP Foundation Training will be addressed in greater depth. Many new topics will be introduced, such as Ayurveda and yogic psychology, essential oils, therapeutic meditation and subtle therapies, advanced pathology, etc. Hours of training: 400-hrs.

Skills Learned and Complimentary Income Earned
Though open to anyone, the AWCP is ideal for yoga teachers, providing teachers with skills that can be applied in the classroom as well as a secondary revenue stream outside the classroom. Teachers can give more accurately informed advice, guided by the wisdom of yoga and ayurveda, and be better compensated for it. As we all know, resourceful teachers stand out above those less resourceful. Practitioners are able to establish themselves in the community as Ayurvedic Wellness Counselors. The course can be offered as Continued Education to certified yoga teachers and to healthcare practitioners interested in applying Ayurveda in their practices.

Skills taught include constitutional (prakriti) and conditional (vikriti) dosha assessment, pulse and tongue analysis, tissue analysis, Ayurvedic nutritional therapy, cleanse management, traditional herbology, oil therapies, lifestyle counseling, subtle therapies, Ayurveda in asana practice, client rapport, ayurveda psychology, and business management.

In our modern communities, yoga teachers hold the highest mantle of health, vitality and consciousness. Students, friends and family come to us for advice in matters of diet, lifestyle, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing. Without practical assessment skills, the advice given is more often trending (fad) information or practices the teacher personally employs for her own wellness, than genuinely skilled support personalized to the individual.

At it’s essence, Ayurveda is a wellness system. Historically, all yogis understood it’s principles and logic. T. Krishnamacharya, the Father of Modern Yoga, had a deep knowledge of Ayurveda when he gave such unique teachings to BKS Iyengar (therapeutic structural alignment emphasis) and to Patabi Jois (Asthanga Vinyasa). Ayurveda had a huge impact on how those teachings were informed.
