Born and raised in Guatemala, Maria moved to the US in 2005. What started as a six-month adventure in the United States turned into a nine-year (and counting) journey. Throughout the many changes and obstacles Maria has encountered, one thing has remained constant – her love and admiration for the practice of yoga. As a somewhat impatient, impulsive person, yoga has taught Maria the simplicity of slowing down, listening to and resting in your own truth. Maria believes there is something so powerful and humbling about yoga that continues to help her in all aspects of her life. It gives her a new way of responding to daily events and challenges. It is from this place of awareness that her passion to teach and teaching style are drawn. Her classes are an inward journey of self-discovery, moving from a place of love, compassion and acceptance. From her yin to her more yang classes, you will find creative sequences and intentional flow that will leave you feeling grounded, energized and at home.
Maria received her 200 hours certification training from Peachtree Yoga Center in Atlanta, and is currently working towards her 500-hour certification. She just recently moved to Nashville after teaching in Atlanta for 3 years where she co-lead a teacher training course at Sacred Thread Yoga. Her desire to learn all the different methods of yoga has taken her to workshops with many talented and inspirational teachers. Maria is also a certified Pranic Healer who studied under the direct supervision of Master Hector Ramos and Deborah Quibell.
