Since yoga is all about creating and sustaining balance in our lives, this class is the perfect complement to a strong Vinyasa yoga practice. This class will be more reflective in nature as we find our way into various postures, usually on, but not limited to, the floor, and stay there to see what happens. In order to explore the more advanced poses that yoga has to offer, you have to open your hips. Come prepared to dive deep as we provide you with valuable information for your yoga practice to carry into the rest of your life.

Been practicing yoga for a while now and starting to get curious about the practice beyond the poses? This class is for you. The sutras are essentially the psychology of yoga. If we chant them, they can help us understand our restless monkey minds. Chanting doesn't have to be this weird thing that some yogis do. In fact, chanting is not only a form of pranayama (conscious breathing), but its also considered to be Internal medicine. We'll weave the sutras into a strong vinyasa practice, showing how related the poses of the body are to the posture of your mind. Class includes vinyasa practice and ends with seated chanting of Nicki's Top 10 Foundational Yoga Sutras.

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are considered to be the road map for the yogi. The word “sutra” when broken down is translated as “su,” meaning to link, and “tra,” meaning in order to the sutras are small phrases with very big meanings. All yogic traditions are rooted in the ancient philosophy, which basically explains the steps needed to be taken in order to reach enlightenment. While most of us are not necessarily after enlightenment, these seemingly simple aphorisms can be a lifelong study and practice. The most exciting aspect of starting to study them is discovering how much they relate to the asana practice and just how much they can enhance your yoga practice. In this class we will explore the sutras most related to asana and we’ll do this through translating them, defining them, and then chanting them.

To practice yoga is to recognize and celebrate the Divine within and find expression for that realization. A dynamic Vinyasa style yoga practice is one way to do just that and to start to awaken the spirit within us all. Through an energizing sequence of postures, we will explore how a grounded, earth-based asana practice can be the bridge that joins the gap between the spirit body and the physical body. The beauty of this class lies in its spontaneity: it is always different. Depending on students’ needs and backgrounds, the postures are linked together using an intelligent sequence and with conscious breathing. Dynamic backbends will complete the flow. This is an extremely fun class and can go very deep.
